Surroundings of Ankara - Nallıhan (July 2017)
On the way to Nallıhan!
This time Eldoku went to Nallihan, which is a 2 ½ hours drive away from Ankara. The small town of Nallıhan is known for its traditional filigree needlework by using its own produced silk thread. We met with the “NAL ETIK Cooperative” chairwoman, Mrs Kadriye Sezer, who spent a lot of her limited time to show us arround. She gave us some interesting insights and we saw some wonderful pieces of the fine textile art of Nallihan. A thin needle and a thread of fine silk yarn are the only tools the skilful women of the NAL ETIK need to produce this special embroidery as it was used to be done in the old times. Not to loose this old traditional handicraft, including the selfmade production of the silk thread, is one of the major concerns of the NAL ETIK organisation.
We also met Mrs Hamiyet Gürelli, who designs special fabric by combining weaving and the filigree needlework creating innovative fashion. She is planning to have a fashion show in Ankara probably in September this year. An occasion nobody should miss.
